I assume it's this problem.. This means that postgres isn't running. Please try starting the postgres service: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Start Service. If that, and a reboot doesn't work, try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps. Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql//data'.
After you try to start the service, Please select the last few files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log (they're dated so just pick the recent ones), right-click and choose 'Send To Compressed/zipped Folder', then attach the zip file to a ticket on the Support system, and link to this thread in the reference field of the ticket so that we can investigate.
Something must be preventing postgres from starting.
It happens just after I did some change in the config file (increasing some numbers like work_mem and shared_buffer). I cancel my changes and now it works again so the problem comes from your config file. Add a # at the beginning of each line you changed in the config file, tehn reload and restart and it should work.
deleting the postmaster.pid file didn't work for me, so i did the send to zip thing but after i clicked zip... nothing happened. where do i find that zip folder to send to you guys? or can i just send the unzipped version? i was going to send 2 of them and they are only 8k and 25k.
That's fine - send the unzipped versions, just make sure the filenames aren't too long, and make sure they attach ok when you click the button - they should appear in red below the box.
