I need some more details, you haven't said what the problem is. What errors are you getting??? Please be specific.

When I open PT I immediately get the error:

"Unable to connect to the database.

999 - SQLSTATE = IM002
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified."

When I select Utilities>PSQL DB Functions I get:

"Error #1
Unable to connect to PostgreSQL (Port #: 5432) to get the list of databases. The error was:
999 - SQLSTATE = IM002
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.

This is most likely due to the fact that the database server is not running on this port. Make sure the database server is running or, if the port is no
longer being used, open the Utilities>PostgreSQL Settings window and remove the entry for the port #5432 so you don't continue to get these error
messages."

The PSQL services are in started status.

Under the PSQL Settings : Port/5432 - Server/localhost - Username/postgres - Password/***** - ODBC Entry to use/PSQL unicode - Encoding/UNICODE

Go to the Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.2 > pgAdmin III window.
On the window that opens, it should show a list of servers with something like "(localhost:5432)" next to the server name. What does it say next to the "PostgreSQL Database Server 8.2"? Is it on port 5432 or some other port #?

The program name on my Start menu is PostgreSQL 8.2. When I open pgAdmin III window there are 3 servers listed, 8.3, 8.0 and 8.2. 8.3 has (localhost:5433) next to it. 8.0 and 8.2 both have (localhost:5432).

In PT, go to the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window.
Click on the ODBC Entry To Use field and click on the dropdown arrow in that field. Are there any entries in the list or is it blank? I know you said that "PostgreSQL Unicode" was in that field, but when you click the arrow, do you actually see that value highlighted in the list?

The drop down has two entries - PostgreSQL Unicode and PostgreSQL ANSI. Unicode is highlighted when I click on the dropdown.

Are you using Vista? I don't see how you should be getting these errors.

Go to the Start menu and select Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC)
Click on the System DSN tab. Find the entry "PTPGSQL Test Port 5432" in the list and click on it.
Now click the REMOVE button and confirm you want to remove that entry.
Now try to go to the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window in PT2 and see if you still get the same error when you try to open it.

Not using Vista. Using XP home.

When I confirmed that I wanted to remove "PTPGSQL Test Port 5432" I got:

"The setup routines for the PostgreSQL ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver."

When I clicked on OK I got:

"Component not found in the registry."

and the "PTPGSQL Test Port 5432" is still in the list.

Something must not have been installed when you installed 8.2. Did you use the one step installer? If so, that could be the problem. Download the old manual install here...
http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/downloa ... 2.12-1.zip

It's a ZIP file. Extract the files into a separate folder, then double-click on the larger MSI file to reinstall 8.2 and then see if it works.

I'm pretty sure I used the one step installer for 8.3.6 but I used the manual install for 8.2.

I downloaded the zip file to a folder on my desktop and unzipped it there.

When I just redownloaded it for some reason it seemed to take much longer to download. I downloaded to the same folder overwriting the existing zip file.

I then unzipped to a different folder inside the desktop folder.

For what it's worth when I ran the larger MSI file it told me to use the smaller file which I did and went thru the installation process.

When I first ran it, it asked if I wanted to modify or remove PSQL. I said modify and it didn't seem to reinstall anything at all.

I unistalled PSQL, went to a command prompt and C:\net user /delete postgres, deleted PSQL folder from program files and reinstalled again.

I still get the same errors when I open PT2.

This is not just a PT2 issue, if you can't Remove the entry from the ODBC window because it's telling you the driver was not found then something is screwed up somewhere.

Use the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs window to uninstall any instance of PostgreSQL that shows in that window.

Then go and delete the entire c:\program files\postgresql folder.

Then go back to that ODBC Data Sources window and try to remove the "PTPGSQL Test Port 5432" entry. Does it let you remove it now? If not, go to the Start menu and select Run. Type REGEDIT into the next window and hit OK. Go to the entry...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI

and below that you should see the "PTPGSQL Test Port 5432" entry listed. Right-click on that and select "Delete" from the menu and this will remove it.

Now, reinstall PostgreSQL 8.2 and then try PT again and see if it works.
