Migrated database to new PC - no hands appear

Postby eurythmech » Wed Nov 12, 2008 4:50 am

Hi!

I restored the backed up database as per the guide's instructions, and all seemed to go well. It took a while, and after having added and opened the database, no hands appear. Not ring hands, not tourney hands - nothing.

What might have gone wrong?

Did the DOS window that opens when the restore is working close by itself or did you close it manually? It should have closed by itself, if you closed it then the restore wasn't done.

Open the Utilities > Database Maintenance and Options window, do you see any stats there?

Are you using Vista? If so, are you sure PT is running as administrator? Vista should prompt you to cancel/allow PT to run every time.

I'm pretty sure the DOS window closed by itself, but I can't say for sure. I can obviously re-do the procedure and find out for sure.

I am running Vista. First I enabled "always run this as administrator", but I have now disabled UAC altogether.

I did see stats, plenty of ring game sessions, when I looked at that window you suggested.

If you see the data on that window then make sure you don't have some filters set that are preventing you from seeing them...

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear on this.

I hadn't changed any filter settings and when I press "remove filters", the problem still remains.

The only thing I can think of currently is a small option that seemed almost insignificant at the moment, and still mostly does, that happened during PostgreSQL install was I had a choice between unicode and some other encoding option. This was not covered that I could see in the guide.

Could picking the "wrong" option there be the cause?

What in the *&Ĥ&#, now I don't see any stats under "database maintenance and options".

Lemme investigate...

It shouldn't matter what you pick when you install. On the PostgreSQL Settings window in PT, the last 2 fields should be PostgreSQL Unicode and UNICODE.

if you don't see the data I would say to do the restore again.

I removed the database from PT (that is, I didn't delete the actual data). I then restored from the same backup-file, agreed to overwrite data (should be the exact same data anyway) and the import seems to have gone fine. The DOS window closed automatically.

I added the "new" SQL db, opened it, and checked for hands. Nothing. Nowhere. I'm puzzled, to say the least.

What is the size of the .backup file you have?

Guess I should have been clearer about that too :p
