Hello,

I am trying to run a cluster command on a ver 8.2 database on port 5433.

I have the following line in my postgresql.conf file
port = 5432

I run the following from the command line with the current directory at
C:\\program files\psql\ver8.2\bin >
psql -d "MyDataBaseName" -U postgres -c "cluster game_idx_01 on game;"

It says do I have port 5432 operating, or something to that effect.

I originally had ver 8.0 at port 5432 but that has been uninstalled and dropped. There is only ver 8.2 now with databases on port 5433.

I believe I have it set to 5433 in the odbc Data source adminstrator too.

Anything that I need to be aware of besides these issues ?

Thank You! :)

Are you sure you edited the right postgresql.conf file? Go to the C:\program files\psql\ver8.2\data folder and there you should see the postgresql.conf file. Right-click on that and select Open With > Notepad from the popup menu and then make sure that file has the port # of 5433 in it. If that file is correct, go to the folder where you had 8.0 installed, it may have some files left there that the uninstall did not remove. If you find the postgresql.conf file from 8.0, try editing that to port 5433 and see if that helps.

Thank you for your help.

I changed the old 8.0 postgresql.conf file to say port = 5433 and that didn't help. So, I changed the name of the postgresql\8.0\ folder to OLDpostgres\8.0 and that still didn't help.

Do you think that there is an old registry entry or something ?

PokerTracker has only 1 setting and it is at 5433. ODBC has the MyDataBaseName entry set at 5433 and both postgresql.conf files are set to 5433.

And still, the cluster command says that I need to check that TCP connections are available at port 5432....Or something like that, but it sure does say PORT 5432 .....and that port has nothing to do with this database.

Any more ideas, please ?

I don't know what else it would be looking for. You could look in the register under...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PostgreSQL\Installations

Do see if anything there is pointing at port 5432. If not, maybe search the entire registry for "5432" to see if that turns up anything. It really doesn't make any sense if you are running the command from the command line in C:\program files\psql\ver8.2\bin that it would be looking at the wrong port.
