Issues with New Purchase

Postby ontheone2 » Sun Nov 23, 2025 3:16 pm

Hello,

I have decided to get back into play online cash games and wanted to get some software to track my hands/games. I decided to go with your software and purchased the small stakes version of pokertracker 4 today and the transaction went through on my credit card. I have been running into some issues getting the software up and running. I have used hand2note in the past on this computer. I looked through the forums here and found out that I should install PostgreSQL 16 in order to compatible with PokerTracker 4. I have removed all PostgreSQL software that was previously installed and have installed 16(this includes hand2note, Hold Em Manager and an older version of PokerTracker). When I run PokerTracker after I installed, I get this error:

Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT4 DB
Reason: This server is not responding to connection attempts. Please restart the PostgreSQL service, then PokerTracker and try again.

I get the same error when I try to click 'browse databases'. I don't seem to be able to create a database at all. Am I missing something? Please help!

When you installed PostgreSQL v16 did it say it installed successfully at the end or not? If yes then what port and password were used for the install and do they match what PokerTracker 4 is using? The default port PokerTracker 4 uses is 5432 and the default password is 'dbpass' (no quotes). If you are not sure if PostgreSQL v16 installed correctly then click your Windows Start button then type the following command:

services.msc

and click on it when it appears. Do you see the PostgreSQL v16 service in the list? Is it started, or can you start it? What is its 'Status' and 'Startup Type'? If the PostgreSQL service is not listed at all then it will need to be installed and we have a guide for that here. If the PostgreSQL service is listed but not starting then open the Event Viewer (in the same way - if you type 'event' you should see it). In the top left section, expand "Windows Logs" and click on "Application". Do you see any recent errors in the top center section for PostgreSQL? If you do let us know what they say.

Hey - thanks for reaching out! It was a password issue when I was setting up PostgreSQL 16 but I worked it all out. The software seems to be working well for me at this point.
